caution...

To help deter your abuser retracing your steps after using the internet (particularly regarding information on domestic violence)  take a few simple precautions.  Although these actions may not protect you 100% it may help.

  • Try and access the internet via a pc other than your own or that which your abuser has access to.

if this is not possible :-

  • Clear your "history" or "cache" in order to clear traces of previously viewed pages - access these through your browser's settings.

  • Choose a secure password, known only to you, and change it frequently  to prevent your abuser accessing your email account(s) - both inward and outward mail.

AOL8:
To clear sites previously visited:
Go to AOL Keyword: Preferences> Click Toolbar & Sound> Click Clear History Trail Now> Click Yes.

You can also choose to have your AOL history trail automatically cleared every time you sign off or switch Screen Names on AOL, for added privacy, by using this same screen.

Netscape:
Select Preferences from the Edit menu  > Navigator > Clear History > Advanced > Cache  > Clear Disk Cache.

Internet Explorer:
From Tools menu select Internet Options > General page > Temporary Internet Files > Delete Files plus select Clear History
